Doctors have proven that uncontrolled intake of carbohydrates, especially sugar, leads to serious changes in the structure and functioning of the brain. It is for this reason that people with diabetes are at risk of developing dementia.

Scientists decided to test the effect of sugar on the brain of healthy people. 114 volunteers were offered to undergo testing for the study of memory and the hippocampus (an area that is extremely important for memory). It turned out that two glucose markers are directly related to memory impairment and hippocampal disruption.

Thus, even in healthy people, excessive consumption of sugar leads to impaired memory. Now the task of scientists is to figure out how the decrease in (or complete failure) of sugar consumption affects the state of the brain.
