The church blessed this holiday in 2011. Two siblings who died for faith in the 3rd century, were healers and brought many benefits to people and animals. At the opening of the temple, visitors led by brothers burned all idols, for which they were attacked. The brothers defended the believers, but were captured and tortured. Flora and Lavra fell asleep alive in the well, burned the rest of the participants. However, at the moment when they were discovered from the power, the death of cattle ceased. Flora and Lavra began to be revered as patrons of horses.
On this holiday, peasants gave all their attention to horses - they washed, cleaned, and braided pigtails in their mane. Then they were sprinkled with holy water. Animals were treated to a festive treat, even treated to beer. Mistresses bake a special cookie with a horseshoe - for good luck. Also, the last summer day is considered the end of field work. Holiday celebrations marked the end of winter sowing. Wormwood was considered as a popular sign: if it has a thick root - you can expect a good harvest. August 31, 1935 - the beginning of the Stakhanov movement
The reason for this event was the record of Aleksey Stakhanov, who, with the competent organization of work and with the help of his professionalism, met 14 daily norms for coal production at the mine on the day. The communist pariah decided to turn the Stakhanov movement into a millionth. He was picked up throughout the country, turning it into a special form of socialist competition. The workers themselves sought to overfulfill the plan, while the goals were different - some from ordinary excitement, others because of money, and some from ideological considerations. August 31, 1986 - the death of "Admiral Nakhimov" - a passenger cruise ship
The completely accidental collision of “Admiral Nakhimov” with the bulk carrier “Pyotr Vasev” with a grain load in just 10 minutes led to the sinking of the ship. Damage to the hull caused by the collision opened up access to water; moreover, all portholes were opened in hot weather. The ship sank almost instantly. Killed 423 people, the harm of which 64 crew members. Expert opinions are unanimous - the captains of both ships made mistakes. A monument was erected near the Novorossiysk lighthouse in memory of the victims of the water disaster.
